Winnie Eley joined The University of Newcastle, Australia in May 2013.

As a member of the Executive Committee at The University of Newcastle (UON), Winnie takes on strategic leadership of the University's inaugural global partnership plan and contributes to the achievement of the University's vision by 2025, NeW Futures Strategic Plan (2016-2025) and NeW Strategic Directions (2013-2015).

Winnie has over 15 years of senior management experience with appointed positions including founding director of international affairs and acting inaugural director of advanced executive education institute at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; deputy country director, director Abuja and director business services of the British Council in Nigeria; and director of education services for the British Council in Hong Kong.

She has spent the last decade and a half in devising international development strategy; developing whole-institution approach and associated systems and partnerships in student mobility, institution relations, international education; and leading and managing a range of diverse portfolios from scholarships (Chevening, Ford Foundation and Scholarships for Excellence), science, creative industries, alumni relations, customer and information services, transnational education, marketing and communications, to high level policy collaborations.
